If you were also thinking of moving to Berlin...

Q: Do you think Berlin is a potential capital of the arts as Paris once was?

A: No, Berlin has too many economic problems. It has become an island, just as it was in the Cold War. The German art scene is developing very fast. Today, issues such as German nationality, its sad history and identity, the ugliness of Germany—these are no longer relevant. Being German is no longer a defining factor. Subsidised art is a bad thing in Germany. Independence is crucial.
